United Nations High-level meeting on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and well-being

On 25 September 2025, Heads of States and Government are meeting at the UN General Assembly to set a new vision for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing towards 2030 and beyond through a new, ambitious and achievable Political Declaration.

The President of the General Assembly and the co-facilitators of the intergovernmental negotiations have now shared the final Draft Political Declaration.

Since the publication of the the Zero Draft Political Declaration in May, civil society organizations participating in the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs have been sharing their analyses, reactions and advocacy on the WHO Knowledge Action Portal on NCDs.

On WHO’s dedicated countdown website, several commentaries have been published highlighting WHO’s work on key aspects of an effective and equitable NCD and mental health response, including on sustainable financing, NCDs and mental health agendas, equitable access to medicines, air pollution, primary health care approach, and multisectoral governance. Thematic content collections

On 22 September 2025, the Ministry of Health of Brazil, NCD Alliance, the World Diabetes Foundation, and the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs are co-sponsoring the Fourth Multistakeholder Gathering on sustaining joint actions, coherent policies and inclusive programmes on NCDs and mental health. The event will also mark the launch of three thematic issue briefs co-developed with GCM Participants.
