Virtual Meeting on Strengthening Self-Care Interventions for Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region

WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (WHO/EMRO) in collaboration with WHO Headquarters (WHO/HQ) coordinated efforts to introduce self-care interventions in the Region with adoption of WHO consolidated guideline on self-care interventions for health: sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Five countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Pakistan) initiated SC interventions while promoting DMPA self-injection, HIV self-testing and oral contraception on the counter.

Documentation of the experiences was conducted during 2020 to reflect on approaches and measures to adopt SC/SRH along with strengths and main challenges. Countries documentation was proposed to be published in the Journal of health research policy and systems (HARPS). The journal agreed to publish the countries documentation via articles in a supplement which will be published by April 2021.

The purpose of this meeting is to ensure the adoption and the implementation of self-care interventions for sexual and reproductive health into practice and assure the dissemination of the relevant documentation of SC/SRH at country level.
