WHO European conference on tackling NCDs through digital solutions

The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation will host a conference jointly with the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases. The conference aims to unpack the public health benefits and deficits of emerging technologies and provide an evidence base for their broad-scale adoption in combating noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

The conference will be an interactive event held in Moscow in a hybrid format, with the participation of Member States, partners and other key stakeholders. Participants will include high-level Ministry of Health officials, government bodies, intergovernmental, professional and philanthropic organizations, academia, private sector and people living with NCDs.

There will be inspiring examples from countries, institutions leading on the use of big data, the digital health industry and people living with NCDs. The meeting will be held in English and Russian.

The conference aims are threefold:

  • To identify how the challenges to NCD response brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic can be addressed through digital solutions;
  • To disseminate good practices and innovations in the use of digital health for surveillance, prevention and control of NCDs; and
  • To determine how WHO can support countries in successfully implementing digital health solutions for NCDs and build back better in the face of the pandemic.

COVID-19 has created a need for telemedicine and digital health, and good results are seen in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and other NCDs. The conference will serve as a launchpad for further research and commitment by countries to invest in these solutions at national level and as partners.

On the morning of 14 December 2021 there will be a public webstream open to anyone with prior registration through the link below. Attendance for afternoon sessions is by invitation only for delegates from Member States and experts.
