The United Nations General Assembly has adopted the Political Declaration of the fourth high-level meeting on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases and the promotion of mental health and well-being, held on 25 September 2025. This represents an important milestone for chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs).
The Declaration includes a commitment to an integrated approach to lung health within primary health care, and to scaling up prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including improved access to effective medicines, strengthened diagnostic services, and structured long-term management programmes.
GARD member organizations are encouraged to use this opportunity to reinforce national and regional engagement, and to advocate for stronger CRD policies and services within NCD strategies and primary health care frameworks.
