A Right Not A Privilege: Prioritising Maternal Mental Health

The perinatal period - through pregnancy, childbirth, and the year following - is a time of transformation. But for millions of women around the world, it’s also a time of emotional distress, isolation, and untreated mental health challenges. This advocacy brief by United for Global Mental Health makes the case for governments, donors, and partners to prioritise maternal mental health, strengthen the primary and community care workforce’s perinatal mental health skills and integrate maternal mental health care into maternal and child health services.

Highlights include:
• Country case studies from Kenya 🇰🇪, Indonesia 🇮🇩, and Liberia 🇱🇷
• Practical recommendations for integrated care into maternal and child services
• A call for more funding and training primary health workers in maternal mental health
