Non-Communicable Disease in Pregnancy--A Virtual Consultation

WHO maternal and perinatal health recommendations are intended to address issues surrounding the practice and delivery of antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care, and to prioritize person-centred health and well-being. With the obstetric transition, and more women experiencing co-morbid chronic conditions during pregnancy, WHO/HRP/MPH will develop guidelines on the management of NCDs in pregnancy. Critical to every guideline is explicit consideration of acceptability and feasibility of the proposed recommended interventions for relevant stakeholders. In the case of management of NCDs in pregnancy, these would include pregnant women and their care providers.

Objectives:

  1. Provide an overview of WHOs effort to develop guidelines on management of NCDs in pregnancy
  2. Identify common experiences and priorities related to pregnancy and chronic medical conditions
  3. Learn what types of “education” or “information sharing” mechanisms may prompt women to seek care for their chronic conditions in pregnancy
