International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP)
There are 1.25 billion adult tobacco users around the world, and 60% of them want to quit, but only around 35% of the world’s population have access to comprehensive tobacco cessation services. Given the global prevalence and burden of tobacco use, particularly as a risk factor for noncommunicable diseases, it is important that the services provided by pharmacists in this area are expanded and consolidated. At this event, FIP will launch a global intelligence report on pharmacist-led tobacco cessation services. A joint WHO-FIP statement and call to action on the role of pharmacists in tobacco cessation and examples of successful pharmacist interventions/services in tobacco cessation will also be presented, along with findings from a survey and a systematic literature review.
