The number of people living with diabetes is skyrocketing. By 2050, it’s expected to more than double from 2021 levels. To combat this crisis, the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) launched a groundbreaking initiative in 2013: the GACD Diabetes Research Programme.
This ambitious programme funded 14 research projects spanning 19 countries. The projects focused on implementing evidence-based strategies to address the risk factors, lifestyle challenges, and complications associated with type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes.
This report is a comprehensive summary of the GACD Diabetes Research Programme. It delves into the methods, strategies, results, and impact of each project, offering invaluable insights for researchers. By synthesising these findings, we aim to pave the way for future meta-analyses and inspire innovative approaches to tackling the diabetes burden.
GACD is launching this report on 14th November 2024 in line with World Diabetes Day. The virtual event will feature insights from speakers, including representatives from the World Health Organization, and the researchers whose projects are highlighted in the report.
