Global Asthma Report 2022

The Global Asthma Report 2022 was launched at the Union World Conference on Lung Health on 10th November. It is the fourth version and has contributions from 97 experts from, 31 countries. Content is focused around reducing the burden of asthma and improving asthma management.

New asthma research is summarised: prevalence and severity of asthma over time, and its management. This report is written in the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we report new research about children with asthma and COVID-19. Before the pandemic many people with asthma, especially in low- and middle-income countries, were unable to access the quality-assured essential asthma medicines and care they need, and that may have worsened.

The Global Asthma Report 2022 highlights all the major issues related to prevention and management of asthma, including access to affordable essential medicines, and policy. It is an excellent tool for advocacy purposes in all countries, suggesting concrete actions for all stakeholders.

More than 1000 people per day die from asthma. Low- and middle-income countries disproportionally suffer the most severe cases. We have the tools to counter the devastating personal and economic impact of untreated and poorly managed asthma. It is time to take more action.
