The Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) has launched the Increasing Access to Inhaled Medicines campaign, highlighting the critical need to ensure that essential inhaled therapies are consistently available, affordable, and accessible, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Inhaled medications are fundamental to the management of chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD. However, a lack of equitable access leaves millions without treatment, worsening disease outcomes and deepening global health disparities.
The campaign urges joint action from governments, global agencies, manufacturers, and civil society to eliminate barriers and advance the delivery of quality-assured inhaled therapies for all.
To support this initiative, a dedicated webinar is available, outlining practical approaches to improve access for the hundreds of millions affected by asthma and COPD. You can also find the webinar slide deck, as well as suggested social media posts to help amplify the campaign’s message.
Additionally, read the full remarks by José Luis Castro, WHO Director-General Special Envoy for Chronic Respiratory Diseases, offering insights into the urgency and global relevance of this call to action.
