Breast Cancer Workshop at the World Cancer Congress 2024
Advancing breast cancer treatment and care in resource-limited settings

UICC is delighted to be holding a further in-person workshop on breast cancer at the World Cancer Congress 2024 (WCC), in collaboration with the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative (GBCI). The workshop will be held on Thursday 19 September in Geneva, from 2pm – 5pm and will build on the one held at the World Cancer Congress 2022 focusing on the first pillars of the GBCI - 'Advancing early detection of breast cancer in resource-limited settings'.

This second workshop will explore ways to advance treatment and care for breast cancer in resource-limited settings and how civil society and other key breast cancer stakeholders can progress efforts towards the GBCI target of at least 80% of patients completing multidisciplinary treatment.

Participants will benefit from expert insights sharing experiences about strengthening treatment and care for breast cancer patients in LMICs followed by facilitated table discussions.

The workshop will highlight:

  • How countries can work towards improving access to treatment for patients, including access to surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, as well as supportive and palliative care;
  • Advocacy strategies and policies that support improved access to breast cancer treatment;
  • The crucial role that navigation plays in helping patients to access information and services, and hence improve their quality of life and treatment adherence.
